Rivne hosted its first half marathon organised by Nova Post: over 1,300 participants took part

On 20-21 September, Rivne became part of a nationwide series of running events organised by Nova Post. For the first time, the city hosted a half marathon of this scale, with professional athletes and amateurs, as well as the youngest participants in prams, parents with children, people in wheelchairs, and veterans who returned to sport after serious injuries, all running the distances. The event brought together more than 1,300 participants and became a true symbol of accessibility.
150 children took part in the 100- and 500-metre children's races. The youngest participant, Oleksandra Levytska, is only 1.3 years old, and she completed her first 100 metres. The oldest runner, 69-year-old Viktor Nedibalyuk, ran the full distance of the 21 km half marathon.
The organisers, Nova Post and NewRun, paid special attention to accessibility. The starting area and routes were arranged so that both professional athletes and amateurs, people with disabilities, veterans with prostheses or in wheelchairs, parents with children in prams, and even runners with pets could participate in the event.
A special feature of the Rivne half marathon was the “Start without a gunshot” — an innovative solution that Nova Post implements at all its running events. Instead of the traditional gunshot, the start is announced by a powerful wave of sound and light, which gently but effectively launches the race.
«We always try to use our running events to draw public attention to important issues. For us, it's not just about sport or winning races – it's about change in society. In addition to its noble goal of raising funds for the rehabilitation of the Unbreakables, the Rivne Half Marathon shows that our cities must become accessible and convenient for everyone. Barrier-free access is not an abstract idea, but concrete solutions that give people equal opportunities to live a full life,»
– says Inna Poperechnyuk, co-founder of Nova Post.
As part of the event, a symbolic 1 km ‘Support Run’ took place. It was dedicated to Ukrainians who paid for freedom with their health and are now recovering from their injuries. Patients from the UNBROKEN rehabilitation centre joined the run, including Anatoliy Savitsky from Rivne, a veteran of the 42nd separate mechanised brigade, who, after a serious injury, now uses a wheelchair and dedicated the distance to his hometown and comrades. Dmytro Sokot from Kostopil, a soldier of the 14th Brigade, lost his hand and suffered serious leg injuries. He is currently preparing for prosthetics and also took part in the race.
Roman Chernenko, an anti-tank soldier of the 93rd Brigade, ran 10 km on a prosthesis. He was wounded in 2024, completed his rehabilitation in the spring of 2025, and has since covered more than 450 kilometres.
«Last year, I covered 1 kilometre on crutches at the Nova Post marathon in Kyiv. Today, I ran 10 kilometres on a prosthetic leg. The running community inspires me to reach new heights!»,
– says Roman.
«We know very well that there is an active running community in Rivne. But it is important that, along with the development of the city, there are events that unite and inspire people. It is for this purpose that we brought the scale of Nova Post and the NewRun series of races to Rivne,»
– says Oksana Suchenko, director of NewRun.
All entry fees, as well as donations through the Dobro.ua platform, are directed towards the manufacture of prostheses for UNBROKEN patients.
